In Loving Memory of Cora Lee Sandra Cartwright Green


February 9th, 1938 – July 28th, 2026


With heavy hearts, but hearts filled with wonderful memories, we announce the passing of Cora Green, a gifted musician, a mother, a daughter, and respected member of the community, who passed away on July 28th, 2026 at the age of 88.


Born on February 9 in Coffeyville, Kansas, Cora was blessed with a love for music from an early age. That passion inspired a lifelong journey devoted to sharing the beauty and power of music with others. After earning her degree from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas, she began a music career that spanned more than 60 years. While her dedication to music was strong, her anointing and faith in God remained the guiding force of her life.


As a music teacher in the Washington D.C. area and later in Coffeyville, Cora will be remembered for sharing her musical gifts and talents with numerous church choirs and for inspiring her students to develop the same love of music that she cherished throughout her life.


Beyond the classroom, Cora was a vibrant presence in the arts community. While living in the Washington, D.C. area, she participated in musical theater with the Allen Group, and after relocating to Coffeyville, she continued sharing her love of music as a member of a traveling quartet. However, many will look back with affection on her years with the community choir Inspirational Voices, under the direction of Sister Renee Franklin.


Cora will be remembered not only for musical excellence but also for her humor and ability to bring people together at her many years employed by Walmart. The memories she made with coworkers and the Coffeyville community will continue to resonate for years to come. We are better because of her contributions and the joy she shared with others.


Cora’s parents Eliza and Russel Cartwright taught her to love life but more importantly to love God. They took her to church as a child and through her childhood and as an adult she continued to be ever present in the house of the Lord. Revelation 20:13 reveals that “they were judged every man according to his works.” We fervently hope that Cora’s good works were pleasing in the sight of God, and he will say to his child, “Well done thy good and faithful servant.”


Cora is survived by her son, Marlon Green, and his wife, Cynthia; her granddaughters, Nia Green, Mariah Tabron and her husband, Martez Tabron, and Amari Green; her step granddaughter, Kianna Smith; three great-grandchildren; her sister, Ladonna Melton; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eliza and Russell Cartwright, her sister, Teresa Gilmore, and her brother, Riley Cartwright.


Viewing will be Thursday, August 20 at Mission Funeral Services 502 S. Union from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.



A memorial service celebrating Cora's life will be held on August 21st at First Church of God in Christ Family Worship Center 2802 W. 1st St. Coffeyville KS at 11:00 am. 


Though the final note has been played, Cora’s legacy lives on in every student inspired, every song remembered, and every heart touched by her gift of music.

Deepest condolences to the family. When I think of Cora I think of a person full of life, vibrant and with the greatest enthusiasm. Talented and like a shining star. ?????
