Willie Mae Martin


Willie Mae Martin went to glory at her home on November 7, 2015.


Willie Mae was born in Coffeyville, KS to Willie White and Retha Walker-Martin on December 31, 1930. She attended Cleveland School and graduated from Field Kindley High School. On November 20, 1950 she married Herbert Martin Sr. and to this union five children were born. She was employed over 30 years at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center and retired as a nurse's aide. She was a faithful member of First Church of God in Christ. She was also on the Trustee's Board, The Mothers Board, Hospitality Chairperson, and choir member.


She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters, one brother, and one son. She leaves to mourn, Children: Joshlyn Franklin (Joshua), Dover, DE; Herbert Martin Jr. (Harriett), Coffeyville, KS; Anitris Dean, Coffeyville, KS; Camellia Jenkins (William), Coffeyville, KS; and daughter in law: Artonza Martin, Coffeyville, KS; Brother Leonard (Clara Mae) White, Coffeyville, KS; extended children Warren Dennis (Erica), Tulsa, OK; Diane Downing, Coffeyville, KS; Carla Irving (Aaron), Clinton, MO; and Michael Ransom, Kansas City, KS. 24 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends are left to cherish her memories.


Willie Mae was affectionately called "Granny" by all who met her. She loved cooking and was a quick to invite anyone into her home for an old fashioned home cooked meal. She loved cooking everyone's favorite dish. At dinner time she enjoyed being surrounded by family members. Granny was known for making the best pie crust, hot water cornbread, corn meal dumplings, and Louisiana shrimp, and greens.


Viewing will be Saturday, November 14th from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, November 15th from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Mission Funeral Services 502 S. Union


Service will be Monday, November 16, 2015 at 11 a.m. First Church Of God In Christ 2802 W. 1st Street Coffeyville, KS


Interment: Fairview Cemetery following service

We are so sorry to hear of Willie's passing. We got to know her through Kidney Dialysis in Independence. Willie was a very sweet lady. Our prayers are with her family

Precious in the sight of the Lord, is the death of his Saints. We just wanted to let you know we are Praying that God will give you the strength you need and comfort your hearts at this time. Granny was a very special "Mother" in my life and I will truly miss her. She touched my life and so many others and was loved by all. She is now safely resting in the arms of the Lord. May God Bless and Keep you all.
