William Ramon McCarter, affectionately known as “Pooman,” was born on June 20, 1975, in Chicago, Illinois, to William Rose and Bargie McCarter (King). He passed away on January 2, 2026 at CRMC
In 1984, he relocated with his family to Coffeyville, Kansas, where he grew into a vibrant, talented, and unforgettable presence in the community. Pooman had a deep love for cooking and music—two passions that shaped his life and brought joy to everyone around him. He enjoyed being a DJ, loved music of all kinds, and sponsored major concerts throughout Coffeyville, Joplin, and the surrounding areas. Always sharply dressed and full of life, he was truly the heartbeat of every gathering.
Pooman’s culinary journey began at an early age under the guidance of his father, William “Skeet” Rose, who was the only Black male cook serving as lunchroom manager at Marshall High School. Inspired by his father’s skill and dedication, Pooman became a talented gourmet cook himself, later working for KFC and Casey’s.
His commitment to his community extended far beyond the kitchen. He coached little league football and basketball, proudly leading the Coffeyville Hot Shots and mentoring many young athletes who looked up to him.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Bargie King, of the home; his brothers William Rose of Chicago, IL, Anthony (Ashley) Rose of Coffeyville, KS, and Markall (Savannah) McCarter of Tulsa, OK; and his sister Sheila (Orrin) Flowers of California.
He is also survived by his daughters Ashley McCarter of Chicago, IL, Justyce McWilliams of Kansas City, KS, Mykila Triplett and Anica Saunders of Joplin, MO, and Charlie McCarter and Kalonnie Guests of Wichita, KS; his sons Shamiah Triplett of Joplin, MO, and Malique McCarter of Sulphur Springs, TX.
His memory is further cherished by his aunts Mary Gordan and Darlene McCarter of Coffeyville, KS, and Rochelle (Carl) Roscoe of Kentwood, MI; his uncles Charles “Chuck” McCarter of Denver, CO, and Tony McCarter of Nashville, TN; five grandsons, three granddaughters; stepsisters Kimberly King and Michelle King; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.
Pooman was preceded in death by his father William Rose, his grandmother Carrie McCarter, his grandfather Charles “Charlie T” McCarter, his uncle Mark McCarter, his son William Ramon McCarter Jr., his stepfather Larry “Gert” King, and his stepbrother Lawrence King.
Pooman’s legacy lives on in the laughter he sparked, the meals he shared, the music he loved, and the countless lives he touched. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be Friday January 9th at Mission Funeral Services from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. located at 502 S. Union St.
